Traveling Monopod
Before my trip to Costa Rica I debated if I should bring a tripod or buy a monopod. After doing some research, listening to others and evaluating my plans I decided on buying a monopod. I have never used a monopod before so I wasn't sure what to look for. I decided I needed something strong, lightweight and that would fit into my checked luggage.
I decided on the Manfrotto 676B. It's a very simple device that met all my criteria. With this monopod the camera screws directly to it without the need for a head. Another bonus, no head means less weight, bulk and money. I'll have to admit I hardly ever used it on the trip. The upside was that it was no problem to carry, in fact I often forgot that I had it with me. The times I did use it, it performed well and helped me take some great shots of the sunsetting over the over the ocean from the beach.
If you were to ask me if it was a good buy I'd have to say, yes. Honestly if it helps me get one great photo, it will more than pay for itself.
